Meta Quest 3 Microphone Too Quiet (2024)

I've been playing Co-Op games on my new Meta Quest 3 after upgrading from Meta Quest 2. Specially, Arizona Sunshine 2. The problem is that the Quest 3 microphone sounds really quiet. This is the exact same setup as my Quest 2 and I've done restarts and resets.

Now I need to know if this is something that will be fixed by the team at Meta or if this is going to be a forever issue and I should downgrade back to Quest 2. I'm a social gamer so poor mic quality is a showstopper for me.

We know it's no fun to not be able to use our devices to their full capacity, so we would love to help get this issue resolved for you. Luckily, we do have a couple of troubleshooting steps that you can try to fix the microphone audio issues. With that being said, can you please try these troubleshooting steps if you haven't already?

1. Make sure the microphone is clean and not obstructed (the microphone is 2 pinholes located a few inches apart one on either side of the nose)
   • Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may block the microphone (such as a third-party facial interface, etc.)
2. Test with multiple games/apps
   • If happening only in one game/app, check the game/app permission to make sure microphone is enabled
3. Reset Microphone
   • Settings > System > Sound > Toggle Microphone
4. Reboot the headset
5. Factory reset

We've seen these steps help people out in the past with the same issue you're having. We're hoping that they will do the same for you. Thank you so much for the swift reply, @WhiskeyCity! The troubleshooting steps for Quest 2 and Quest 3 are very similar, and this includes any troubleshooting for audio or microphone issues as well. We would like to ask: is this just with a specific game or multiple? If it's just this specific one, we'd recommend adjusting the audio settings within the game, as some games will allow you to adjust microphone volume, background noise, and music.

This issue still has not been resolved. I need to know if the quiet mic is a known software issue because I'm still in the return window for my Quest 3 and I need to know ASAP if I need a replacement. I see a lot of other posts saying that the update to v60 made the mic a lot more quiet (https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Get-Help/Quest3-V59-mic-quiet-now/td-p/1105901)

Are there plans for developers to solve this issue? Do I need a hardware replacement?
